Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry specialized in the treatment of patients with incorrect positioning of the teeth when the mouth is closed (malocclusion), resulting in an improper bite. Orthodontic conventional treatment involves moving the teeth with braces in order to make them straight and to correct the bite.

  • Close large gaps between teeth
  • Improve the health of the mouth and gums
  • Improve the function of the teeth
  • Improve speech or feeding (oral function)
  • To avoid long-term excessive wear, grinding or trauma (of teeth)

the orthodontic treatment

At Previdente Dental Clinic, we have all the expertise and equipment to make sure that your teeth will be perfectly positioned. Our Orthodontic Specialist, is highly experienced and offers comprehensive orthodontics performing advanced procedures on both adults and children to give them the smile they deserve. The Orthodontics department at Previdente Dental Clinic has a range of treatment solutions, removable and/or fixed. During a consultation, we can assess your needs and help you determine which option is right for you. We offer traditional (metal), ceramic and self-ligating to correct crooked smiles.
Metal Braces
Traditional metal braces are still the most common type of braces requested by patients. Thankfully, they are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth, using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are made of a clear ceramic material, therefore, less noticeable than metal braces. The latest ceramic brackets are very strong, meaning they do not break very easily, and are more comfortable. However, if you need an extensive corrective treatment, metal braces are probably the best solution.
Self-Ligating Braces
Self-Ligating braces are the modern choice in Orthodontics. By avoiding the elastic O-rings used in traditional braces, teeth move faster with less discomfort, and are easier to keep clean. It applies biocompatible reduced forces that ensure reduced friction and rapid and simplified dental movements. This option requires prior planning and diagnosis to assess the possibility of using this technique.

Orthodontic assessment

During your initial consultation, our Orthodontist will take time to listen to your concerns and understand what you hope to achieve from an orthodontic treatment:
  • Examination (teeth, jaws and face)
  • Teeth impressions (molds)
  • Digital photographic records
  • Radiographs (x-rays) for a cefalometric study
This information and records will help our Orthodontist to diagnose any underlying problems and formulate a comprehensive treatment plan. At any time, you can ask us any questions that you may have and discuss the various aspects of the proposed treatment.
Once all the diagnostic information has been taken, the treatment plan has been agreed, we will then be ready to place the braces. There will be monthly consultations in order to monitor the movement progress of teeth and make the maintenance of the braces.
Before the completion of the orthodontic treatment a retainer may be necessary after the removal of the braces to prevent the teeth from moving again. They can be either fixed or removable (Hawley or Essix). Typically, orthodontic treatment may cause some discomfort immediately after maintenance consultations, however, it is a slight and temporary discomfort.
