Services Inhalation Sedation

Previdente is pleased to inform you that a revolutionary technique has been introduced that helps anxious/fearful patients remain calm enough for the visit to take place properly.

The responsible for implementing the technique is Dr. Sérgio Pereira, Previdente’s clinical director, who in 2004 acquired the necessary qualifications to apply this method – Qualification Course in Inhalational Sedation with Nitrous Oxide.

We would also like to inform you that Previdente is currently undergoing a Quality certification process (ISO 9001) in view of constantly improving our services and fully responding to our patients’ needs.

INHALATIONAL SEDATION

What does this technique involve?

It involves inhaling an anaesthetic gas called nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas,” which helps keep the patient sedated during the examination period, inducing a calm and relaxed state, while always maintaining consciousness.

To whom should this technique be applied?

This technique can be applied to special patients (e.g. Down Syndrome), paediatric patients and patients suffering from acute fear and anxiety.

What is fear and what are its consequences?

FEAR

  • short-lived phenomenon that disappears when the stimulus ceases.
  • May cause physiological alterations such as tachycardia, hyperventilation and sudoresis.
Depression Stress Anxiety

A significantly high percentage of people avoid going to the dentist because they fear dental treatments, and they try to solve their problem by taking analgesics. This type of patient is classified as suffering from acute fear and anxiety.
In addition to needless consumption of medication, this phenomenon increases the number of medical emergencies.

->Adversely affects both patients and health professionals!

What are the advantages of this method?

  • Rapidly reversible action;
  • Practically eliminates anxiety and fear;
  • Reduces use of local anaesthetics by up to 60%;
  • Reduces salivary and blood secretions;
  • Provides excellent analgesia and keeps the patient cooperative.

Are there any counter-indications?

  • Patients with psychological disturbances (e.g. claustrophobia);
  • Pregnancy (first trimester);
  • Infection and respiratory tract illnesses.
