A Previdente is pleased to inform you that you can have Panoramic Dental X-Rays taken at the Ferreiras clinic. The equipment was acquired with patients’ well-being and satisfaction in mind, as the diagnostics and treatment procedures will be faster and the entire process will be based at the clinics. With implementation of these measures we seek to increase the range of services available at the clinic and reinforce the Quality certification process (ISO 9001) currently underway at Previdente.
Dental Radiology What is it? It is a photographic record of an image produced by passing X-rays through an object. What is an orthopantomographic exam or panoramic X-ray? It is a radiographic image that provides a complete projection of a three-dimensional anatomic structure onto a flat surface. What is it used for? This one hundred year old tool allows diagnostics and therapeutic planning to be more precise and suitable. It is used for various purposes, mainly:
It should be mentioned that all Radiology equipment used at Previdente is digital and as such exhibits two main advantages: 1. less time exposed to radiation produced during the exam; 2. better image quality, thus facilitating interpretation and diagnostics.
What is a tomography of the temporomandibular articulations used for? It is a type of radiological exam that allows diagnosis of the temporomandibular disturbance, which is a likely cause of cephaleas (headaches), ear aches, hearing loss, ringing of the ears and orofacial pain. A special class of this type of exam allows forecasting the amount of remaining bone tissue for applying osteointegratable implants. What are the underlying risks of these exams? Although there is a slight radiobiological risk to using X-rays, it has been scientifically proven that this risk is lower than that of ambient radiation (e.g. cosmic radiation, ground radiation, ultraviolet radiation) we are exposed to on a daily basis. Is there a high risk group? There are no counter-indications to X-raying children, on the contrary. It will help prevent and/or attenuate future aesthetic problems and/or articulation related problems. In the case of pregnant women, it is recommended that these exams be conducted after the 3rd month of pregnancy or after birth, depending on the urgency of the case.
