The Previdente team is committed to providing quality service in all respects, including safeguarding patients’ general health and that of its staff members. The company seeks to increase the confidence of its patients in its health and safety control methods, as such efforts have been made to increase the reliability of sterilisation methods. This is one of the goals of the Quality management system that is currently being implemented at Previdente in view of obtaining ISO 9001 certification.
How are instruments sterilised?
The person in charge separates the instruments that will undergo sterilisation from the other instruments. The clinical waste is then separated (bloody compresses, etc.) from “normal” waste. Clinical waste is placed in a separate recipient and is collected by a company specialised in processing this type of waste. We would like to point out that the mercury waste from dental amalgam commonly known as “lead” is similarly treated.
Instruments subject to sterilisation are processed through 5 phases before they are used again: 1 - Washing and drying in running water and detergent. During this phase the larger waste is removed. 2 - Cleaning in ultrasonic bath – the waves created collide with the smaller waste that has stuck to the instruments, eliminating it and ensuring complete cleanliness. 3 - Packing in sleeves to control sterilisation – when exposed to high temperatures the letters change colour. 4 - Steam sterilisation (sterilizer) – At this point all the microorganisms are destroyed. After this the instruments are distributed to the offices. 5 - Microbiological tests – This piece of equipment undergoes microbiological tests every 2 months in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendation. Application of these tests constitutes the second confirmation of the effectiveness of sterilisation.
